Sokoine University of Agriculture: Good Practices in Transforming Higher Education
22 December 2007
Author: P Msolla (Professor and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Sokoine University of Agriculture)
Institutional change is a dynamic process that enables institutions to cope with a changing environment. Institutions of higher learning have in the recent past accelerated the pace of transforming from their historic ivory tower status towards a state that is sensitive and responsive to clients’ needs. These changes have involved institutional re-organization, new recruitment criteria and procedures for both students and staff and in particular more participatory teaching methods. The ultimate goal of such changes is to produce graduates with knowledge and skills that meet the expectations of the labour market, both as job seekers and job creators.
